I think you would need two actual wires down to the telephone station, since the dsl-modem uses the bandwidth above the telephone >4000Hz. The phone use the 300-4000Hz, and the dsl-modem use the frequencies above to transport analog data down to the telephone station where it goes digital on "to da' net".
