i really, really wish there was something like ranger on OS3. it does exactly the sorts of things you need. i have the commercial version on all my next-gen machines. unfortunately it's only for OS4. maybe we could pester ssolie for a backport?
in the interim both scout and snoopdos are probably good starting points.

really dont understand whats wrong with scout, snoopdos, artm or whatever else there was. i doubt, we need another utility like that ported over from os4, even if it was actually an option. which it hardly is given the incompatibilities between the systems. snoopdos as example isnt usable on os4 afair, even if it works on sros68k perfectly well. same for other of those 68k apps.
