A4000 and Deneb combo question
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:44:47 PM »
I dont know if anyone asked this. But how well does a Deneb work with a stock 3640 card? what are the slow downs if any?
I am also looking to get FastATA MK-V will there be any issues with this combo?

Is the FastATA worth getting?

Why FastATA when you have Deneb? For drives you can use USB SATA/PATA adaptors.[/quote]

Cool. Thank you. How fast is the USB Hard drive to Amiga transfer? Better then internal? Better then SCSI? how does it compare?
thanks in advance

I use a Deneb in my A4000D/3640 with a USB Ethernet device attached, a FastATA 4000 mkIV (with 2x80GB HD and a CD ROM), Cybervision 64/3D and a Zorro RAM board.

Everything works in harmony.  If you're not going to use that motherboard IDE connector then consider getting a "terminator" for it to speed the boot-up.

Thanks i was thinking of getting that Terminator withthe other stuff i am buying from AmigaKit. I just want to be certain before i comit a lot of cash... LOL

So far on order list, Indvision AGA, IDE-Fix 1200, Deneb, Terminator.... (LOL I hope the wife doesnt find out yet...)
Another questions would you pick FASTATA over the Buddha?

Once the stuff is installed, the wife will never know (I speak from experience)!  :-D

Get the FastATA 4000 - it's a Zorro3 card and a lot faster than the Zorro2 Buddha.

Once you have it installed, set it up to use "No Split" and then SFS rather than FSF to get some nice big partitions on your hard drive(s).

I found it easier to set up the large hard drives by installing OS3.9 to a split drive first and then using the OS3.9 toolbox to partition and set up the large 80GB drive with SFS and then drag the contents to the split drive over to the large drive before repartitioning the split drive as another large drive.

Now I just back up the primary drive by copying the contents to the secondary drive.  Any {bleep}-ups installing software on the system drive can be fixed by just wiping it and dragging the old data back from the secondary.  Easier than Windows rollback!  ;-)

WOW Cool... Since I have heaps of 40GB and 80GB seagate HDD I like your Idea and i will definitely do that as for the wife "MY BROTHER WANTED ME TO BUY THIS FOR HIM... LOOK SEE "HE" GAVE ME THE MONEY ALREADY........." and i am sticking to it!! GOD the things us married guys have to go thru to get what we want.......  :-D   :-P
