Yeah I saw that on Slashdot, pretty crazy if you ask me, but it may be true I suppose.

Yes, that's why the E8 theory looks promising.

As for the whole Schrodinger's cat thing, my limited understanding of quantum mechanics leads me to believe particles on the quantum level only seem to exist in a number of states because we cannot accurately observe them. When we try to observe the particles we change their state (location, energy, etc...). Without knowing the effects we are having on measurement we will not know the true state of the particle before measurement.

My completely un-Scientific theory for multiple states (that I only just dreamt up) is that particles on the quantum level actually exist in other dimensions, and through observation we are peering into these dimensions and making the particles 'real' to us. Just a thought.
