@m3x

I'm sure what you meant to say is that Mac OS cannot legally run on an AmigaOne and soft3 is taking a firm stand against piracy.

Now, while MOL runs on AmigaONE, and Mac OS (9 and X) technically run...hopefully everyone understands this will be limited to 2d stuff w/o full acceleration...especially don't expect and 3d accelerated games to work.

You did not buy Mac OS 9, you purchased a limited license.

The license specifically prohibits Mac OS 9 from being used in certain ways....for example on two machines at the same time...and more interesting, it prohibits it from running on nonApple hardware.

There are a few countries in the world where piracy is legal, but it was decided a while back, that on amiga.org that as an american website, american law would be the reference point...anyway it hardly matters its the same in europe....

long story short, to answer your question, its not legal to run mac os on non-apple hardware...90% of the time this isn't a problem, because Linux PPC and MOL run on apple hardware 90% of the time...but for AmigaONE/pegasos, you are left out cold.

From Mac on Linux :
Q: Does MOL run on non-Apple hardware?
A: It does.  MOL runs for instance on the Pegasos board, the Teron board, and the AmigaOne hardware... However, teh EULA of the Mac OS prohibits its usage on non-Apple hardware...

And my own comments:

AOS4 can technically be made to run on any Teron board and probably the pegasos, but we all understand that as piracy, so why do the AmigaONE vendors not understand the wrongness of pirating Mac OS 9 or X.

I don't blame the end user, but the soft3 rep. posting a link to his piracy page?   Before you flame me, I looked at it...Mac OS 9 running on an AmigaONE at the bottom of the page, just as he claimed.

When running Linux on Mac hardware, I understand the appeal of this program.  It enables the user to run the native OS (Mac OS 9 or X) inside the linux environment.

The appeal for an Amigan is obvious...if it could allow someone to run the AmigaOne native OS (AOS4) in a box inside their linux environment.

But I haven't heard anyone say they believe that will be possible....anyone???

I'm asking... but it seems like Amiga, Inc. has every intention of making sure this program doesn't work.
If I am wrong, I hope someone corrects me....its the purpose of these discussion boards, after all...to exchange Ideas...and my idea is Amiga Inc, wants to somehow promote this program (for pirating Mac OS X)...while making sure it does NOT work for its natural purpose, to allow the native os (in this case OS 4)...to run inside of the linux environment.

thoughts?
