Power comparison
« on: November 12, 2025, 11:45:54 PM »
I've been trying to find some side-by-side comparisons of the A1200NG to other stand alone systems.  The info I first found (can't find it now  :( ) put the A1200NG way below other offerings, but with the proposed Turbo card, it will be much faster than anything else.

Has anyone put together such a comparison?

Fair enough to both questions.

I was looking at pictures of SYSInfo for several different systems and was comparing the Dhrystones and Mips.  I know there is a lot more that figures into it, but I kept it simple.

But now I can't seem to find the numbers I originally saw.

It basically came down to the Vampire (I think) was a lot faster, but with the specs mentioned (in one interview, AmigaKit said the A1200NG was going the be about "X" times faster then it currently is) the Accel. Card coming, the A1200NG surpasses it.

Standalone Vampire V4 - 181.5 Mips

My "Boosted" A1200 NG using the same sysinfo. 270Mips mips as attatched.
Unboosted it is about 210-215 mips.

Sysinfo 3x too old.

270 is more than 181 last I checked.

And you'd be right.  ;)

I figured out what was causing all my confusion.  It wasn't the Vampire, it was the Pimiga benchmarks I was looking at.  ;D

Now THOSE have blazing speeds with Mips of 1342.  But with the Accel. board coming out for the A1200NG, Mr. Leaman said it will be 5 times faster.  So, taking the current 270Mips x 5 you get 1,350.  THAT'S what I remember seeing and calculating and it all makes more sense now that I'm comparing the right boards.  8)

Here is the interview where Matt spills the beans on the speed:
