I realized the other day how much fun I am going to have loading OS4.1 on my 1200 considering the BlizzardPPC lacks a SCSI interface.  My only option for loading the OS is to connect an IDE CD-ROM which is going to be such a mess.  If only loading from USB was an option.

If only my CD-ROM AND HDD work at the same time, that would be amazing. I need to disconnect CD-ROM so HDD will boot (most likely I need to attach it on secondary IDE). USB booting on Classic? :hahaha: ;)

Nicest part is that OS3.9 with all the same HW has ZERO issues.

I think there should be Final Final version of OS4.1 for classics, that works most of the time, not just "for selected one".

I tried to connect to internet using my Realtek network card... good luck! Nothing, device not detected. (Did I mentioned it works great under OS3.9?).

BTW. My Blizzard PPC had SCSI, but it LACKS DRIVERS from OS4.1 :), so I can't use it.

I think that you have to install the SLB to the RDB of your HD in order to boot from it.

Can you explain more? I really don't know how to boot this system with DVD-rom attached (on the same IDE port).

THANK YOU!

your Dvd rom drive needs to be set to slave and the CF card master but I don't know how you would do this with a CF card?

I don't use CF (BTW. this adapters have a jumpers), I'm using EIDE SSD (Master) and CD-ROM as Slave, it is attached to 4xEIDE.

I'm reading it EXACTLY as you wrote your post :). For some reason, every-time I connect DVD-rom I get "floppy animation" (BTW. How you call this initial screen in English?). Beside this OS4.1 works quite well I have to say. I have the same issue with 4xEide or FastATA.

@HammerD Can you tell me what it is "Drive Initialization code"?

So, I did exactly (including block size..., saving file system in RDB - I did that already few times...) as in your blog and after finished installation Amiga will not boot from HDD, only screen with floppy drive.

HDD (partitions) are not visible in early boot menu.

I'm using 4xEide to install OS4.1.

BTW. When I install OS3.9 system WILL book perfectly fine. I'm actually thinking of making dual boot and see how this will work.

SOLUTION: I used on of "cooked/updated" ROMS chips, works from cold boot zero issues. Computer boots, with DVD-rom.

BTW. Hyperion time to update ROM chips in Amiga's. After this "experience" I think AmigaOS4.1 should be delivered with UPDATED ROM chips, as long time ago. New system, new ROM chips.

Thank you for help, but I really followed you blog manual and it doesn't work.

With updated ROMs it works but FastATA will not work (pink screen forever) and I don't think I will use it in this case (0.9Mb/s HDD transfer...). System works (including Update 1), but it is way slower then OS3.9. Additionally, no USB support, ancient LAN card support etc. etc. Technically all software I would use runs great under OS3.9, so if there is no solution to run AmigaOS4.1 with FastATA (that is listed as compatibile!) I'm going to use it AmigaOS4.1 on my... PC.

@HammerD I'm using PATA SSD.

Again thank you for help!

So, I was NOT able to make dual boot (for whatever reason, and at this point I don't care...), AOS4.1 will always boot (boot priorities were there etc. etc. etc. no joy). I will be switching CF card :).

I used FastATAII (instead of FastATAV) (II is not supported under AOS4.1 and that is GOOD at least for me :) ) + CF cards but I can actually use it to get HDD/DVD-rom and under OS3.9 FastATAII actually works as it should and AOS4.1 will actually SEE DVD-rom and boot when it is attached! :). Still without "new rom" it would not boot.

There is something specific, maybe it is my motherboard but it will not happen with OS3.9 and AOS4.1 is supper sensitive about it.

I really wish I could use my FastATA under AOS4.1 (since it is listed as "compatible"). Reading Hyperion forum, there is tons of people that have issues similar to mine.

Beside this Update 1 and Enhancer 1.3 installed :). I have to say that it works quite well (but it has this feel of "beta" version, definitely not "FINAL"), however OS3.9 feel WAY more refined, smooth, fast etc. etc. 060 + PPC really make OS3.9 fly.

There is some issue with "stutter" (especially after installing Enhancer 1.3 e.g. someone set up new clock with "high antialiasing" that literally was killing my Amiga, when it is OFF works great! - someone should TEST this before and Enhancer 1.3 Classics should be configured for... Classics. After this there is less... stutter.

Now, I need to put all this stuff back into my case...

hehe, good point.. but its just a handful of each, that is what I meant.

There is only handful application Amiga can be used in general, with main application is to make it work... This really makes it 100% different then any of my other computers :). It is like a bonus feature of Amiga software/hardware you pay for pleasure "to make it work". This did not change in 20 years for sure :).

E.g. I added G3 card into my Performa and it simply works, ATI rage? Install OpenGL and.. it works. You get some old Mac games click installer... and it works. Later you install Office 98 and it works! I can't take it any more. Nothing is crashing on me, games just run fine, no pink (or black or gray or...) screens for ever. Booooring (OK. Retro computing is fun overall!). I don't have to attach floppy drive to "hear click" (or this silence of DEATH...) to know my computer will (most likely, since you NEVER know!) boot.

BUT at the same time Blizzard PPC IS a monster. AmigaOS4.1 is really mixed bag. It is very beautiful, it really nicely expands on this what OS3.x was/is. There is PLENTY of nice things about it.

ah, so you enjoy your computer freezes.. so why even call for help?

probably a good choice with os4 though.

Sarcasm my friend and as with sarcasms 50% truth/50% not. Why to call for help? To find solution :).

Try a fan on the PPC. This helped for me.

PPC is stable, very stable when it works. My main problem was FastATA and some strange issues with not detecting my hard drives. Not booting after installation can be combination of my old HW and AmigaOS4.1. Not, sure.

PS. Now after installing LAN card my system is... freezing after about 5 minutes of use.

A1222 WHERE are you ;).
