Have you tried classic amiga? there is a lean A1200 version that install scalos and dopus 4 with a lot of other already configured enhancements. saves you a lot of hassle getting things to work. i installed the lite version on my A1200, very quick to boot, uses little ram, and very functional, but there are other versions there you can try:
