Amiga 1000 using A500 HD

I have A1000 and A590 SCSI controller that I want to use, but is it safe to connect it to A1000 side expansion slot? Will it work?

Thanks for important info. I'll think twice before cut anything, but A590 definitely would  make this machine much more usable. I have 512Kb Chip RAM available, so 4Mb Fast mem is a welcome addition and ofcourse hd drive!

I wonder if that unit requires Kickstart to be in ROM? That would be the 1st hurdle to using the HD, next to powering it. Might be a timing thing upon startup... which brings us up to question the PAL's on the daughterboard. Or does your machine NOT have the daughtercard?

I don't have daughtercard on this thing.. Why you ask?

Mmmhhh... maybe I don't remember well (I have an A590 but it's not working - have to repair it), but inside the A590 you can mount just 2MB of Fast RAM with DIP chips (generally 120ns).

Anyway it's enough for first expanded setup like yours.

You are correct, I have 2Mb populated onboard. I remembered wrong, because I had SupraDriveXP (which I sold), it had 4Mb.
