The latest FFS can be installed in the RDB of your hard drive. Use HDToolbox or similar to update it. I would get the latest version that does NOT need to be patched as mentioned above.

Good choice! SFS is superior in almost every way. You might want to make backups of your important data more often is all. You are less likely to have a problem with SFS but if you do there aren't as many recovery options.
