Welcome back to the world of Amiga :)

Some times when you try an Amiga with some old floppy disks after years of not using them, you may find that the drive seems to not work properly anymore. Most of the time it's just that your old floppy disks have gone bad, they may have mould/fungus growing on them, and your floppy drive heads may need cleaning. I would recommend a floppy drive cleaning kit, they come with a diskette that has a pad inside them which you drop some cleaning fluid onto, then you just run the disk through the drive a few times and try formatting a brand new floppy disk in it. I hope the problem is as simple as that, you'd be surprised how often it's the case.
