I was wondering how many people have already pre-ordered the C64x today or
is planning too very soon.

"During our brief interview, Altman said the company is “already sold out  on the first two production runs.” Altman explained that the company is  able to produce an average of 60,000 machines per month, which leads us  to believe that in less than 48 hours they’ve experienced a brisk run  of pre-order sales."  Well, it would be interesting to determine what exactly would be a production run in units produced, then we could get an idea of pre-orders somewhat.  As I would expect that Altman would keep his cost down by not carrying an extended inventory which would have to be stored.

Why would you limit the size of a production run to anything less than the number of pre-orders?

That makes too much sense Mongo.  A pre-order is in fact that an order made prior to a completed production.  So, pre-order fulfillment should be wide open to meet those orders.  My thought going forward beyond the pre-orders was to keep production behind sales as not to extend cost into storing units.  Having worked in manufacturing myself storage was at a premium and the goal was to create a JIT product availability to reduce these storage requirements and keep cost down.
