FS: 128MB piece of crap SIMM
« on: March 17, 2009, 03:07:40 PM »
Got one of these for my Blizzard accelerator. In spite of the seller's insistence that it'll fit if you wrap a bunch of rubber bands around it and contort your Amiga in various ways, as far as I can tell the only ways to make it fit is with a hammer or by ripping out the CPU.

Should work in other things that take 128MB 72 pin SIMMs. You're welcome to try it on a Blizzard, but if it trashes your computer... I told you not to do it.

Cost me 19 euros plus a few dollars shipping, which is a rip off. Similar if not identical one is being sold here for an absolutely insane 78 euros.

I'm tempted to make it into a keychain, but I don't need a keychain. I'm also tempted to smash it with a hammer while shouting curses at the ebay sellers name. Or... you can buy it for $15 if you're in the US, or $20 if you're in another country. Shipping is included in both prices.

Uhh, no. It won't go in the accelerator when the accelerator isn't even in the Amiga. The CPU is in the way.

I don't want it. If you do, let me know in the next day or two, otherwise I will put it to bad use.

If the Apollo takes 72 pin SIMMs like PCs used to use in the mid 90s, and the socket is at a good angle to fit a double sided SIMM that is a little over an inch wide, it should work. The problem with the Blizzard is that the SIMM socket is placed in a really bad angle and the CPU is in the way of a SIMM this wide.

MKIV, with a 64MB currently. Can take up to 128 (and up to 256 if you get the SCSI kit and max it out with another 128).

Wow, an accelerator that takes a 68060 can't take more than 32Mb? That seems strange and underpowered. Weren't 128Mb SIMMs pretty easy to get at the time that '060 accelerators were coming out new?

Why would anyone need more than 64mb with an amiga anyways ?

I have 64MB in my Amiga 1200, running OS3.1, and I've run into a few demos which crap out saying I don't have enough RAM. So... there's some things that need more.

Because wizbag annoyed me, this SIMM is now $5 to anyone in the US and $10 to anyone elsewhere in the world... except if you're in Spijkenisse, NL, and are selling these things as fitting in an board they won't fit in. In that case it'll cost $534.92 plus postage.

Yes obviously the seller is cranking the price way up. Selling 128MB for almost 20 euro in 2009 is insane. I have seen these things sold in bulk for very very cheap, and if I wanted to have 100+ SIMMs I could get them for much cheaper. I only need one though.

I think I'll be better off going to thrift stores and yard sales and finding old computers to pull the SIMM out of rather than buying from another ebay pirate.

I'd pay more for one online, if it was guaranteed to fit without breaking my accelerator or requiring stupid stuff like rubber bands. I was skeptical about it being a good purchase, I took a gamble, I got screwed. Oh well.

It's been sold to the first bidder, so... no longer available from me. You're welcome to buy the same thing at a grossly inflated price on ebay, however.
