BlizzardPPC folly -> MakeDir: packet request type unknown
« on: November 15, 2007, 06:45:27 PM »
Hi there!

I am the happy owner of a DCE BlizzardPPC 603 210/50.

It worked fine for months with AmigOS 3.9/WarpOS
and MorphOS.

Lately it started to give some headaches, that's
what I get on boot:

 Cant create directory RAM:T
 MakeDir: packet request type unknown
 Cant create directory RAM:Clipboards
 MakeDir: packet request type unknown
 Cant create directory RAM:ENV
 MakeDir: packet request type unknown

Then it stalls. You can still move the
mouse pointer but then after a few
seconds the Amiga reboots ;-(

To be sure nothing else was interfering
I removed busboards (G-REX) and ScanMagic.

I already tried:

a) changing the EDO rams
b) changing the memory settings in the PPC menu
c) changing the PSU
d) disabling SetPatch
e) booting from floppy with no HD installed
  • Workbench 3.0 seems to do fine, but then if

you do a 'dir RAM:' to create the RAMDISK it gets
upset and lock the box.

If you cycle power a few time you are able to boot
through, but I cannot identify the factor that
is triggering this annoying issue...

I hope some Amiga PPC guru will catch this mail
and spread some light (I suspect the RAM controller
is flaky but I could be wrong) cause I am really lost.

Thanks!

Hi Adonay!

Thanks for the prompt answer!

I will try reflashing (did not think of it actually...).

3 questions:

1) should I use the same G-REX flash ROM that was used
to flash it originally? (I think this is a requirement
to use the G-REX PCI, right?)

2) is there any risk that, because of the unstability of
the system, the flashing process could be compromised?

3) did you have similar symptoms on your DCE
before reflashing? Where they coming and going
   by cycling power?

Really cool that there are still people that love
Amiga out there ;-)

Thanks! (a lot !)
