I had an Amiga M1438S, so yes I think the S means Stereo. If there is a triangular shape in the control button area, this indicates the volume adjust button.

Hi again sim085

Try a good TV repair shop, after all a monitor is only like a TV without the station tuning equipment. Maybe you have a local TV technician who could have a look at it for you.
