Wrong port cable instertion in A4000T
« on: July 06, 2008, 06:42:02 PM »
I accidentally inserted the cables from the motherboard to the port unit on my A4000T wrongly, i.e. I turned the cables 180°
I didn't see it before I booted the machine, it booted but the mouse didn't work. I then saw my mistake and powered off the machine. Since then I only get grey screen and no boot.
Has anyone else ever accidentally made the cable mistake and has that had any impact on your A4000T? If yes, what had to be done to fix it?

I haven't noticed any burnt traces (looked at the board, both sides, carefully).
The Amiga powers on, there is a red-lit fan that runs and the PPC card fan runs as well which makes me think the psu does still work. The boot process just hangs with the grey screen (no activity from the CF card or floppy request when the CF card is not installed). Besides the Amiga booted "fine" without mouse working when I had initially made the cable mistake... I am wondering whether I might have blown a CIA chip? Those bas***ds seem to blow fairly easily...

I'll check the psu... where do I find the pinout for the psu?
Btw, I tried booting it without any card except Disk module... it didn't help :(

Oh, I'll check the ports module... the computer doesn't boot no matter whether the ports module is connected or not though :(

It has been working for a long time, just wanted to replace the capacitors with tantalum ones as the caps on the audio/video board had started to leak :( (even then the A4000T was booting)

I tested the PSU all values are fine.
I noticed that when I boot the machine I get "click" noises when I press the right mouse button (with the screen still being grey but showing scan lines). Also there were no traces that looked burned.

I tested the CPU power values and they are all in the good range. It all happened after replacing all the caps with quality ones... but I think I have blown either Paula and/or a CIA so I have ordered new ones (+ sockets) and will try to exchange those :)
