I would say the chance of lifting a pad (or several) is very high.
With only a temperature controlled iron and lots of patience it's possible to do it successfully. The key things IMHO are limiting both heat exposure and mechanical stress. Did I mention lots of patience.
If you're going to do it anyway, try sliding them sideways from the pads where possible instead of upward, it should improve your odds.
The real question - do you want to just get it done, or do you want to get it done perfectly as possible, with no damage or signs of repair. Some people don't care as long as it works.
