Question for Amiga.org Network "Gurus"
« on: April 03, 2003, 11:52:09 AM »
Ok...can anyone here please verify if I'm
off my rocker?

Let's say a house has two computers, each in
a different room at opposite ends of the
house. Each computer has it's own DSL modem
hooked up, and each is being served with
separate static IP's from the same ISP.

Is this possible??? I don't see why not...I
understand the use of hubs/routers/etc but
is there any technical or physical barrier to
the above scenario?

Thanks for any input...:)

Thanks Radfoo. Damn...that  means I have to
route cable all over the house. We have 2
modems so I was hoping for an easy way
out. :)

Thanks everybody for the advice. I'll probably
end up routing some wire...or maybe we'll
switch to cable...for what we're paying for DSL
(a weak 380k) it seems we could get 1.5mbps
with our cable provider.

That's the exact case. Each computer would have
it's own (different) static IP address from the
provider.

Well, I bought some cat5 end the appropriate
ends etc, I've decided to do this properly.
I've also decided to ditch the slow/expensive
DSL and fire up the 1.5Mbps cable connection.
Too bad upload speed is still only 128k though.

Thanks everyone for the input. :)
