OS4 online via win98 pc?
« on: June 16, 2004, 07:55:13 PM »
Hi folks,

Can anyone give me an idiots guide to using a win98 pc, with external
modem, as a gateway for my A1?

I have cat 5 cabling (not sure if it's crossover - how do you tell?)
and an Ethernet card has been installed in the PC.

I also have a DLink Ethernet hub.

Cheers people,

I'm fairly sure it's win98SE (I'll check when I go downstairs).

Where would I find the Internet Connection Sharing requester?

@Kenny:

Cheers for the help.

On the A1, the subnet box only allows two characters before the first '.', i.e, instead of 265.265.2.2, I get to 26, then it won't let me type another number until I type '.'.

I have the connection A1 -> Ethernet hub -> uplink socket, ethernet hub port 1x -> PC Ethernet card.

@odin:

Whoops, silly me.

But that must mean Gateway 192.268.2.1 is wrong too, oder?

PC seems OK (Wingate and ICS)

A1:
Prefs -> Internet -> Interfaces -> eth3com.device, unit/port = 0, use static IP 192.168.2.2, subnet mask 255.255.2.2 -> use -> save.

Internet -> New Connection -> Ethernet (DSL LAN) -> Manual config.
Device driver eth3com.device, port 0

connection name Robert, service name vispa, interface name PPPoE.

I still get 'connection failed - too many retries'.

@Floid:

I have two patch cables.

Config is now:
PC -> Hub port 1 (I've just switched this from uplink)
Amiga -> Hub port 2.

It's a dial-up modem, although I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered broadband. Should have it in 'two more weeks'. ;-)

I'd still like to get this working in the meantime.

I've tried with both ICS and Wingate.
