Wilse installs OS4pre! :-)
« on: June 16, 2004, 12:14:15 AM »
Just thought i'd let you all know.

Looks lovely - got that old amiga feeling, as soon as it booted.

Posting this from the Pegasos though, which is also lovely. (nya-nya
;-))

@blobrana:

Yes, there were hic-coughs along the way but nothing major.

I had a bit of difficulty figuring out how to make a U-Boot upate CD.

Turns out it doesn't show up as an image file in Easy CD Creator,
which I was using.

I then searched the disc, found the file and burnt it to CD.
I'd only gone and burnt it archived, hadn't I? :roll:

Once I sorted that out, it was completely painless.

I'm afraid I've been too lazy and busy watching fitba' to post a
screenshot.

Sorry.

@cecilia:

serial.device is not yet included, so I can't connect via dial-up.
DSL is fine but I don't have it, unfortunately.

@Kenny:

In some areas, MorphOS is undoubtedly more polished.
For example, OS4's lack of serial.device, USB.device, slower refresh
and, eh, I think that's all I've noticed so far. :-)

Conversely, some things are noticably better.
Datatypes work, so double-clicking on an icon works, which is nice.

It also gave me that 'comfortable old slippers' feeling, as soon as I
saw the workbench screen.

Don't get me wrong, Ambient does that too but AOS4 had a more
noticable effect.
(A sad and geeky thing to mention I know but I guess I'm sad and
geeky. :-) hhehehe..)

@Eyso:

My financial situation has taken a rather sharp downturn lately.
I'm just glad I bought my toys when I did - I could never afford them
now.

But I hear you; I'd be jealous of me too.. ;-)

too bad about that financial downturn

It's not so bad.
I had my spare room rented out to an Irish girl for the last couple of years. She moved out in January, taking her rent with her.

Then last month my girlfriend finally moved out too (she'd been trying to buy a house for a year or so.) She took her contribution to my mortgage too.

Maybe I should write a wee bluesy number about it. :lol:

I still have enough to live on though. Just nothing spare for toys.
