A nice solution if you have a hard drive is to get a TCPIP stack installed (AmiTCPv3.0b or Genesis with OS3.9) and find a compatible PCMCIA ethernet card (see cnet.device on Aminet - this lists compatible PC cards). Amiga Explorer works much faster over TCP/IP and is a much better program than the Ami-PC linkup I feel.
It can be fiddly to get networking working but we will give you lots of help on A.org if you need it :-)

I have tried to connect harddrives to it, using a 2,5 inch to 3,5 inch adaptor, but when i boot Workbench and try to use the hd-install tool, it cannot find it..I've tried with several old hd's, ranging from 40 megs to 850 megs without luck..It's kind of frustrating.

Why are you using the 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor? Are you trying to use 3.5" hard drive? Then you need power to the drive  :-) If you are using 2.5" drive then you just need to use a small special cable, no adaptor.
