It needs to be said. For years now, Hyperion has selflessly dedicated themselves to helping the Amiga platform. Subsidising Amiga development with profits made in other areas, they have brought us some of the best games ever released on our platform. Their Amiga products have always been of outstanding quality.
A year or so ago, Hyperion stepped forward to pick up AmigaOS development. This was and still is a tremendously difficult project, with slim prospects of becoming profitable any time soon. To make things worse, most if not all announcements they make are met with aggression from certain individuals in the Amiga scene. At one point, things were so bad that the Friedens actually withdrew from Amiga forums for months. Is that the right way to treat our most productive, dedicated and not at least skilled coders? I don't think so. Still, in spite of all of this and all other obstacles: Development continued. Now it seems AmigaOS4 is nearing completion. The original featurelist has been expanded, and it seems like we are getting an OS which will be more than worth the wait.
Now why would anyone voluntarily go through what the people at Hyperion have gone through during the last year? I'm sure they wonder themselves sometimes. My guess is that they are idealists, people who are willing to make sacrifices for what they believe in. They are the very best kind of Amigans, and we are VERY lucky to have them among us. All of us who wants the Amiga to have a future owes them our gratitude. I urge all of you to do your best to enoucage and support them as best as you can.
To Hyperion: Thank you for your years of dedication to our platform. I hope you will succeed in what you are doing, and that your efforts will receive the recognition they deserve. Keep up the good work. I hope it will be rewarded, as it certainly deserves to.
