Why eject unfinished disks?
And why write to a disk you cannot finalize immediately?

I have encountered similar problems with my old cd writer. (a 4X teac SCSI writer). I stopped "half way" burning disks and stored the data on my hdds till i could write a full disk. and the problems were gone.

I used to do that too. My pioneer hdd recorder is almost full. about 6 hours left of space.
But. after biting the dust. i deleted files i did not need and wrote files i wanted to take care of to disks to save space on the HDD... :-D my pride ain't what it used to be.
