My Deneb works in my A2000 (68040) in Z2 mode with the latest Posideon stack. I use an original keyboard and mouse though and run the OS3.9 version of Classic Workbench.
Do you have a spare hard drive where you could try a basic 3.1 install with just the USB drivers? No added frills.
