DENEB USB & CYBERVISION 643D
« on: July 30, 2008, 09:20:17 PM »
It was mentioned in a past thread that there was a conflict with the Deneb USB card and the Cybervision 643D RTG card.  Chris mentioned at that time that work was in progress on an update for the Deneb to work around the bug in the CV643D.

I noticed that the update for the Deneb was on their website so I flashed my card with the new file v9, updated Poseidon to v4.1 and Luciferin.  I installed the CV643D card, installed CybergraphX 4 rebooted and then selected a nice big RTG screenmode!

Cheers guys, it works great.  Thanks.  :-D

Now I can finally screw the lid back on my A4000 as there's no more room to add anything!

One general question for any Deneb users out there.  Before the update of the Poseidon software to v4.1 and after I still can't get the USB stack to run on start-up.  I have to run Trident, click "restart" to get attached devices regognised, but the "SAVE" button is greyed out.  Anyone know how I can save my prefes so the USB stack is running on start-up?  I've never had this problem before.

Unfortunately, it is greyed out so I can't click on it.  All I can do is click the "USE" button next to it.

OK, did that, rebooted and still the stack is down until I manually start it.  Very strange.

Is poseidon in the flashrom, or do you start it in startup-sequence or user-startup?

It is in the user startup, and I also clicked on PsdROMtag in the Tools draw which to make it reset resident.

All I've done to the Deneb Flash ROM is remove the Eric Scwartz (sorry Eric about the spelling!) demo.  The flash ROM still contains:

Deneb Intro
Denebpiousb.device
Denebz2usb.device
massstorage.class
poseidon.library
hub.class
hid.class
psdstackloader

I get the Deneb intro on startup.  I've never had this problem before.  I wonder what I did different when I initially set it up.

Also of note is that I can't get the 3 controllers active at the same time in Trident.  If I deactiveate the mausb controller then I can start the piousb controller.

I think it's time to wipe the boot drive and start again...

where is the new DENEB flash???

Here you go:

http://www.e3b.de/usb/index_e.html

click on "SUPPORT" on teh left and then "UPDATES" top center.  there's two updates v8 and v9.  It looks like v9 is for Zorro 3 use only while v8 is Z2/Z3 (could be wrong).

Make sure you follow the instructions included in the download step by step.

Darrin, forgot to mention, that if you keep the poseidon files in your flashrom, you can remove psdstackloader from user-startup.

Ah, so my FlashROM is setting the preferences which is why I can't save the changes from the Workbench preferences!  Doh!!!  OK, thanks for that tip.  I'll clear the FlashROM completely for now and see if that does the trick.

I just wiped my boot partition to start again, but I backed up the old one before I started.

Cheers.

So if I want to make a bootable USB memory stick then I should enable it in workbench, "USE" the settings, then reflash the Deneb with the RAM:ENVARC/psdstackloader.  Then it should allow me to boot from it?

First you SAVE your trident settings. Then you put all related poseidon files in the flashrom with luciferin.
There is a menu option in luciferin to automatically add
all poseidon files. Then you remove psdstackloader from user-startup. Don't forget to partition and format the usb-stick with an amiga compatible file-system (FFS/SFS/PFS).
It's not possible to boot from fat or ntfs partitions.

Thanks.  Once I have everything running properly then I'll have a go at making a 2GB SFS installation on a spare memory stick which I could then use as an emergency backup.

I was ready to hurl my A4000 through the window last night.  I keep having problems with my monitor and scan doubler deciding not to display certain screen modes (which I can work around), but I can't get my FastATA to work with OS3.9!

I make a clean installation and everything is fine. The FastATA docs says that it doesn't need to "skip the ROM updates", but as soon as the FastATA software is installed I get 1 guru during bootup and finally it hangs up with an error loading IPrefs where I can only "reboot" or "suspend" (which leaves me with an empty workbench screen).

Grrrr!!!  I had to walk away last night before I took a large screwdriver to the mobo.

I guess the last resort is to go back to OS3.1 and try something like Amikit to bring the OS up to date.
