I found an old post of someone trying to use just an original A1200 for his day2day computing needs.
Anyone already tried that with MorphOS, Amiga OS 4.1 or AROS?

Tried? I've been using MorphOS as my main daily computer since 2004, and before that I used my fully upgraded monster A1200 :)

That would include iOS devices sync? Coding for a mainstream platform?

Can't say about that. Never had any need on those. But of course you can connect to remote computer with SSH2 if you have coding environment there :) Depends how you define your mainstream coding... of course there are editors, but if you want to cross compile or something like that...

The only things I would need would be:

-Browser that works with Gmail, Google docs.

OWB can do that.

-PDF reader (for resturant menu's ;) )

APDF is included with the OS and even if it's not fully compatible with everything, I've found it good enough to show that kind of things. Most ads, restaurant menus etc have worked here with it.

- Movie player like VLC

MorphOS version of mplayer is more than enough for that. I'd say it's the best version of mplayer on any platform ;) It has good GUI and works like charm. There's also VLC port available, but it's more immature and there's no need for it because of the excellent mplayer port.

-Bit Torrent clinet w/GUI

There are some clients, but they aren't as good as µTorrent etc on other platforms. You can get job done if you want, but I'd recommend to have some other spare machine for heavy use.

-Simple image editor

Included ShowGirls is just marvellous for digital photo handling etc. It does all the needed basic effects etc. But if you need more like drawing app, then there are many 68k options. ArtEffect, FXPaint, Photogenics, ImageFX, TVPaint, PPaint.. oh and included Sketch for simple drawing. Depends what you want to do in practise...

Just installed MorphOS 2.7 on my Quicksilver 933 1.5gb RAM with a Radeon 9600 XT.
first impressions:
1) No support for Brazilian ABNT Keybord! :)
2) font is too small!
3) It`s not exactly flying, but I`m only using it for 5 minutes. I`ll post more impressions later.

1) Ask for it! (mailing list, irc, bugreport)
2) Change it :)
3) Should be pretty snappy, but I haven't ever seen it on that gfx card... maybe its drivers aren't that finished yet and missing 3D might affect too.

Quote

two questions:
1) having no 3d acceleration impacts on performance, or just when using 3d games? What I`m missing?
2) How can I tell if I`m already pass the 30 minutes period? Just by looking at the watch?

1) You'll miss enhanced mode in normal use too. All windows in Ambient etc would be drawn using so called 3D layers, using 3D hardware on gfx card. That would enable shadows and transparency effects etc, there wouldn't be any tearing in window moving, double or triple buffering could be used... etc..

2) There will be nag requester and you probably notice the slowdown too :)

Is there a decent native mail client? You could just set GMail up for POP3 or IMAP use. (I doubt that'd help with Google Docs, though.)

I use SimpleMail for GMail. No problems with that, it supports secure connections etc needed.
