Best way to backup is to have second HD and copy all stuff there exactly as it is.

in shell:
copy source:#? destination: all clone

clone option makes copy to preserve dates and protection bits etc. That means that every file is exactly the same on backup as on original place.

You can also add "quiet" option there, if you don't want to see output of every copied file. Destination can also be directory, of course.. so you can make own dir for each partition for example. Or you can make backup HD bootable and in error situation you can just boot working system from it.

I wonder how Quarterback will handle new filesystems with long filenames etc? It's been at least 10 years since I last used it.. and then only backed up to floppies, which certainly is out of question nowadays.

Diavolo 2000 is good more modern backup program, at least good for DAT:s.

But still I think that the best way is to use that other HD :) What could be more easier than be able to boot system from backup HD when needed. No need ot keep backup-program on bootable floppy disk or similar :)
