My question doesn't relate to the calculator itself but to the statement in the listing that no additional import duty would apply (or words to  that effect) - and then an approximation of the duty is shown.

I have bought a large number of calculators from eBay and have never paid duty into Canada (shipped by standard USPS).

Recently I've notice numerous listings with these statements.

Why is duty being prepaid when it is not normally charged?

I'm guessing this is a problem with ebay. All I did was check the box to allow international buyers/shipping. Ebay is supposed to do all the calculations based on weight and size. And, if I remeber correctly, NAFTA did away with ALL duties between the US and Canada...

Thanks for the info about eBay - I'll see if I can find something out there.
