i just noticed in the A1200 faq that it uses an IDE hard drive. i though it was scsi for some reason, so this was a bit of a surprise. a few things i'm wondering...
- my current HD is just 80mb. i have a HD in my old IBM laptop which is maybe 6.4gb. what's the largest HD that can be used? can a larger one be used, but the A1200 will only aknowledge a part of it?
- will i need a cable other than the one that's already in there?
- the only reason i think i might be able to do this is that i found a (copy of a) WorkBench 3.1 Install disk which looks like it has all the appropriate HD utilities on it. with this it looks like i should be able to back up the current HD to floppy and then re-install on the new one. sound like it would work? not sure how many floppies this might take though, probably a ton. looks like i've got two partitions - one WB partitionthat has 3029kb in use, and another one that has 27mb used up so far. i'm thinking this'd be more than 60 floppies? there may be some stuff i could delete first, but it'd take some work to figure out what.
i'd be interested in doing this, mainly because i'd like to fill the HD with audio samples which could eat up a lot of space after a while. any advice would be much appreciated. thanks.
