HELP - Why doesn't my dctv box recognize the parallel port when I try to digitize

I know I'm missing something simple. I've tried 2 different dctv boxes on 2 different Amigas - same problem both times - when I o to digitize it tells me I can't because I'm not attached to the parallel port (which I totally am) - Ideas?
