Update on A600 Laptop - PSone screen
« on: July 12, 2008, 09:22:18 PM »
Hi, the project is likley to take a long time, but here is an update.

Did an experiment tonnight with how I'm going to power the thing from batteries and a DC to DC step down adapter. Main part of experiment was to see if the -12V is really required, have read this is only used for RS232 port and audio op amps. - well the whole thing DOES work without the -12v, but sound is sometimes distorted - so looks like I WILL need -12V as after a while it sounded unbearable.

Which makes powering the thing a bit complex as I'll need +5, +12, -12 and +7.5 for the LCD screen. - which is a lot of DC to DC converters?

- Any ideas?

by the way, I have not got any dc to dc converters yet, to do the above experiment I had to disconnect the power plug from the A600, and link with wires into where they would normally go - either with or without the -12v.

Any help appreciated, Thanks, Rick.

I'm starting to think a Sinclair Spectrum Laptop project might be easier - just one 9v supply needed.
