For what it's worth, I have one of the new 15" Unibody MacBook Pros, and have had no hardware problems with it at all.
I love it. It's the nicest laptop Apple's made yet... and it's easily the most solid laptop I've ever used.
(And I didn't pay for it out-of-pocket... two months of iPhone App sales paid for it for me. hehe.)
