My A3000UX came with 1M of Chip RAM and no, the other 1M was not in the Fast RAM sockets.  In fact, there was a note from Commodore about how you could buy an additional 1M.  There was 4M of Fast RAM in the form of ZIPs installed.

I sacrificed and took 1M of Chip RAM out of two of my A3000s so I could put 2M Fast RAM in my A2000.  I think one A3000 still only has 1M.  The A2000 is collecting dust because all it can do these days is crash intermittently.  All my A2000s have suffered this fate at some point.

Usually, but not always.  The first one was the power supply.  So, I put in a new power supply.  After that, OS1.3 would work fine but 2.04 would lock on booting.  So, I replaced the motherboard.  It worked for about two weeks, then it started getting intermittent.  So, I put in another motherboard (yes, I do have a large stack of them), and a power supply just in case.  That one worked for a while, but now it fries CIA chips often.  The current one runs just fine until the first time I StartToaster, then it just gets plain intermittent.  The P/S is good.  If I wipe out everything and install it from scratch, it will work just fine until the first day I StartToaster.  And, this is with several Toasters, several Flyers, any combination of Zorro cards, multiple accelerators, different versions of Toaster software, different OS versions, different RAM.
Assuming the case is posessed, I bought yet another A2000 with more memory and a better accelerator almost exactly a year ago.  I have yet to plug it in.  So, now not only can I not make the time to do some serious diagnostic work and fix one A2000, I don't have the time to power on another one!
