Internal hard drive options for A1000/A500?
« on: November 04, 2010, 01:40:08 PM »
So, finally have some cash to splurge and wanting some nice things to treat my faithful little A1000 that has been my companion for over two decades now without failing me.

What I would like is an internal hard drive adaptor for it (so that would exclusively be ICD's Ad-IDE yes?) to install a simple little 4gb hard drive from a notebook. Must be autobooting!

Later I would like a processor slot accelerator WITH 32bit fast ram. Unless it's a 14mhz clock doubled 68000 card then no need for RAM to go with the accelerator. But that's for later, a nice CSA 030 with 4mb 32bit FAST RAM and the utility to load KS into 32bit RAM would be fantastic though for my needs.

If you know where to get known working Ad-IDE cards please let me know. If you know of an alternative for adding internal 2.5" drives to my A1000 that auto-boot again please let me know.

Do not forget us A1000 users, without us there would be no Amiga :)

Thanks to everyone for the great advice here, much appreciated.

The only problem with things that plug into the CPU made for A500 sockets is that on the A1000 it's right up against the left side of the casing and so may not fit. I've seen the Ad-IDE card on a 25th anniversary Amiga video someone posted here in their A1000 so it's is possible if a bit McGyver in construction. 030 and IDE adaptor on the 68000 socket could be a nightmare for dry joints/shorts I admit but the HDD is essential really.

As long as it auto boots after kickstart is loaded and survives a warm boot that's good enough :) It's to help me doing my game I am working on. In 6 months I will probably retire after 'Achieving Hampstead'. And I like KS 1.3, happy happy memories as strange as that sounds and the white/orange/blue combo rocks!

My A1200/600 is not as nice to type on, and my two A2000s are dead and they used clunky old 40mb SCSI drives. Alright for 1990 but erm.....anyway :)

I will keep a saved worldwide search on fleabay and wait 18 months then I guess.

Looks like he hasn't responded in a while to his own thread.
