On the tower case problem, your best bet would be the D-Box 1200 from Vesalia Computers here.

Get it delivered to your friends house, collect both that and the mediator on your next trip to the UK and take back with you.

Not sure if the voltages and electric plugs between UK and SA are the same but there's always converters and/or new power supply  :-)

Not really an issue since the case seems no bigger than a standard PC MIDI tower case so it's easy to carry as a second piece of luggage
