The openvm tools are for "guests". All they basically do is shift data in and out of a vmware vm via a special I/O port (more info
http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/backdoor.html). They don't include anything you would need to host a guest operating system.
bochs should run on AROS, Qemu might.. They are both pretty slow in pure emulation mode though.
