It's a good system for a simple real-time system or if you want to write your own kickstarts/OSes.  Even the ROMs are easily upgradeable since it uses 27C256/27C512.  I have many old games that only run on the Amiga 1000.  It's floppy controller is also more flexible (tolerant) than the A4000/A1200 if you'll be using floppy-based games.  If your floppy drive turns out to be bad, you can easily hook up a laptop and run the simulator here:

A1000 also has a built-in TV modulator and video/audio outputs in color which you won't find on most other amigas so if you are not getting a monitor with it, it would be easy to hook up to a composite monitor or TV.
