Well if you don't want to re-install you could get some other icons and use a Shell or program like Dopus4 to change all the .info files.

OR

You could use IconCopy or CopyIcon44. With these you would drag a new icon into the left window and then just drag a MagicWB icon into the right window to make it the same :-)

I would suggest you backup your Workbench partition to a drawer in Work, and then upgrade to something like OS3.9 and see how it looks. If it doesn't go right and looks really bad, you can always put it back to.. erm.. well... bad  :-(
