There is no doubt that the components and wires I solder get very hot. Sometimes to the point where my finger/s can't stand it but I ignore the pain as much as I can.
I always slab some some solder on one side first, re-heat and attach, then do the other side. No fingertip burns, and no need for a 3rd hand.
