GameCube is really struggling right now, and XBox has hardly any real market share (serves MS right).  It really buggs me that Sony took over the industry so quickly, since I had so many reliability problems with all my Playstations.

In a war between the consoles, I agree that my Dreamcast barely edges out my PS2.  In a war between an unexpanded A1200 and the PS2, I'd take the PS2.  It depends what you do with it.  I made lots of music and graphics with my Amiga, so for me, giving it up for a game machine is not an action of reason.   ;-)

Just remember that selling your 1200 alone will about cover the PS2.  Unless you rent games, getting new titles will cost you an arm and a leg.  Make the trade only if you know which titles you want to buy.  If you're not burning for a particular game (like I was with Sly Cooper), then wait.  The price on PS2 games will probably collapse soon, anyway.

Hooligan_DCS:  The controls in PC version are even more worse than on Porsche Unleashed, which I find has the most ridiculous controls ever.

Hey!  Porsche Unleashed is the best arcade racer ever, and that's a real compliment coming from a NASCAR Racing 2003 freak!  Especially since I found a hack to get it running perfectly under Win2K and have been playing it non-stop all week.  ;-)

Every other NFS title is crap.

[XBox anything...]

My big beef with XBox is that the most titles I've seen don't really take full advantage of the hardware.  Even though XBox had a hard drive, for example, games seem to load much, much slower than they do on the PS2.  Also, as harsh as I am on PS2 for reliability, XBox takes the cake for breakdowns.  I've almost never seen a working one in stores, and I've seen the green screen of death way too often ("Your XBox requires service"...)

Jeffimix:  Yeah, but console games were 50$ in the 90s too as I recall. atleast Pc games sure were. Don't know about 80s but there was more competition back then, 30$s I think...

When Playstation was released, I was hard pressed to find any games less than $70.  It wasn't until a year after I bought mine (in my area) before prices started to fall.  Needless to say, my Playstation collection was very small for a while.

Meanwhile, most PC and Amiga titles I bought in the late 80's/early 90's were about $35.  Adjusted for inflation, game prices have "fallen" quite a bit.  It was a real shock to see "Red Baron" selling for $80 in the late 80's, but other than that, I've never thought that games were too expensive.
