Got a little problem. I just acquired a GVP TekMagic 060 accelerator from a fellow Amigan here. It fits the 2000. In transit, the power lead to the cooling fan moved around a bit and plucked the clock crystal from its socket. I was able to straighten the four bent legs but now my problem is not knowing how to orient the clock crystal when I reinsert. There is a notch at one end of the socket on the board. However, all the text on top of the clock crystal has worn away, and I see no way to visually determine which way to plug it in. I've got a 50-50 shot of getting it right. Do I risk damaging the accelerator by guessing wrong?

Alternatively, where can I buy a replacement clock crystal so there will be no guesswork?

Thanks!

That's a good, high-resolution photo. There is almost none of the text left on the top of my crystal -- not enough even to tell which way is upside for the letters. But I see in that photo that the third line of text is much longer than the first. I'll look when I get home tonight. Maybe there is enough black specks of letter remnants left to see which end of the crystal had the longest line of text. Thanks!

Thanks. I'll look closely to see if one corner is different. And to be clear to all, on my clock crystal the letters are rubbed off, with only a speck or two of black paint left.

Yes, I see the square corner now -- in the photo and in real life. Thanks, folks.

Now, I think I'm getting to the point soon when I will need bifocals.

Last update: Got around to installing the 060 board in the 2000 tonight. The old girl now has a 50mhz 68060 under the hood and 128MB of fastram. For a classic Amiga, she's got some oomph. Also in there is a Video Toaster card and a Personal Animation Recorder card. It's my retro animation station.
