Trying to get my Miggy on the net tonight has made me feel like an idiot. I’d pull my hair out if I had enough left to pull.

Got my X-Surf 3 from Amigakit today,  but I can’t get the A4000 online after hours of trying. I have three Macs and two Windows machines here all online via DHCP and a cable modem and router. All easy hookups when it came to getting online.

On my Miggy with the X-Surf 3, I’ve tried to get it going with Genesis and with Easynet, but it’s no go so far. Are there instructions somewhere to tell me how to do it? When confronted with configuration windows , I’m never exactly sure what to input.

Do I understand correctly that Miami is easier to deal with because of its DHCP handling but is no longer available?

Earlier today, I replaced my A4000 power supply with a 250 watt ATX power  supply and the appropriate adapter kit from Amigakit. That project went well and made me feel like a genius. But this networking business quickly brought me back down.

Holy cow, it's working! Easynet has it going after a reboot. I have no idea what I did to make it work but I was fooling with numerous configuration items before the reboot. While rebooting, I was typing the above message of despair on my PowerMac G5.

Now, I don't dare touch anything. As far as getting Miggy to talk to my other computers, that's a project for another day.

I apologize for making such a post of despair last night, but I was at the end of my wits trying to get my Amiga online. I wanted to see some results before I went to bed, and I was getting tired! I think the last step I did that got me connected was setting up a host in EasyNet and using the static IP address I had typed into another part of the configuraiton process. I can't say the process was particularly intuitive or "Easy," but I guess it's all relative. With installing and fiddling with Genesis and Easynet so many times, I no doubt have files on the hard drive I don't need and extra assigns in the user-startup to eliminate, but the Internet access is working now.

Now, I have to figure out what to do next to get some sharing and communication going on between the Amiga and the Macs and PCs on my network. Wish me luck, as luck seems to play as big a part as anything else with this stuff.

And on the subject of the new IBrowse, is there an ability somewhere to increase the font size when displaying Web pages? I must be overlooking it.

Hopefully it will help others to know that with patience, which I had run out of, it is possible to get this job done. I'm going to try to adopt that attitude with the rest of my networking project. I think that now that I know the hardware (X-Surf 3) actually works and that my future problems (for I do expect some) will be of a software nature, I can bring more patience to the table. Thanks for the encouragement.

I take it that EasyNet and Genesis both are "front ends" for setting up an AmiTCP stack, so if that's the case maybe I don't have much in the way of "extra" files floating around. I deleted the Genesis directory and got rid of a an extra AmiTCP assign for Gensis, and my EasyNet setup still finds the Internet as it should. So, now I'm connected to the whole world. Next, I need to get connected to the other computers in the more immediate vicinity (my house!).

I have to decide whether to register IBrowse or just use AWeb. I really only need Internet access on the Miggy to grab files on Aminet and the like, as I certainly have a wealth of "modern browsers" on other machines. Still, I want to encourage commercial Amiga software development wherever it still exists, so I may register anyway.
