Well, nobody seems to know about this thing, but I did finally get it and it appears to be working. I'm still figuring it out. It appears as if the first device must have a SCSI ID of 0 or else it just won't play ball. After a couple of hours fumbling around, I finally have DH0: on my desktop and it is about 1/3 of the way through formatting 1818 cylinders. I'm sure I won't keep this setup as it's the old file system, but it will do for a first test. I'll probably play with this thing all weekend, running some benchmarks and figuring out the hardware itself and hard drives on an Amiga in general.
A couple of nice things about this device; it's certainly smaller than many of the HD's that hook into the side port on the A500. Of course it's just an adapter, not the whole drive. It's also built like a tank! The enclosure is heavy gauge sheet metal and it weighs in at just under two pounds!
Getting back to the workings of the thing. I'm beginning to suspect that this thing does not use any entries in the mountlist; I'll know soon. Mounting appears to be handled by a program in the expansion directory called InstallHD. Are there any other adapters out there that work like that?
The 'preliminary' manual that I have gotten, is none too informative!
Oh well, the important part is that I finally have a hard drive on my Amiga! :-)
