I had a similar issue with a 40GB drive in a 4000T where the drive wouldn't get recognized. I took an 80 conduter cable and drilled out the plugged hole in the connector at each end and tried it again. The drive worked like a charm.
Might be worth a try if you have an 80 conductor cable laying around.
