Well, for the first issue, I would look at the settings for your network configuration on the XP machine and make sure that "Firewall" isn't enabled. That will prevent the Amiga from seeing the XP box.
This same issue can also happen if you have installed a third party software firewall product like ZoneAlarm or Sygate on the Win-DOHS XP box.
