If you're interested MAINLY in OCS/ECS games I'd recommend to forget A600 and all the shit that comes with it. If I were you I'd buy PS3 and run Amiga emulation on it.. uses E-UAE but only a fraction of OCS/ECS won't run.. hardfiles with WHD works also. Costs you less than $300 and you get the best multimedia/games-center as a bonus.

If you're interested in AMOS-programming then this won't be an option as I think keyboard and mouse aren't supported by PS3 EUAE (yet!).

So your point is pretty much pointless then. The OP wants to program, and he does not want to use an emu.

It's not pointless. The best and easiest way to have an Amiga plugged into your bigscreen-telly is the way I told. Plus who would want an ugly Amiga in his livingroom anyway, can't imagine many livingrooms the creamy lightbrown color fits. Current EUAE is pretty much on par with real A500/A600 .. if not even better.

You would have to hack your PS3 to play amiga games on.

This may cause issues as Sony claim to have solved the hacking issue with the last firmware update.

AFAIK nobody has disputed this yet

There are no issues I am aware of.

How about the issue of being banned from PSN and being unable to play future PS3 software?

Who in their right mind would let their hacked PS3 to connect to internet?

I have a second PS3 for that purpose. The hacked one is part of my homenetwork and used mainly for watching pictures and movies, listening to music and emulating several retro-machines.

Surely the easiest way would be to get an Amiga and plug it into the TV with a RF/Scart/Composite cable

And as told before, where in your livingroom you hide the Amiga?

He wants a real Amiga
He does not want to use an emulator
He wants to use a mouse to draw
He wants to use a keyboard to program
He probably does not want to spend 300 quid, when he can get an A600/A1200 for far less. Even the minimig is cheaper.

Why don't you listen to what the the man wants, rather than trying force your viewpoint that's contrary to what has been requested?

I'm not forcing anything, as a matter of fact it's pretty much the same for me if he wants to fill his apartment with buttugly hardware, I merely told about an option he may not been in knowledge of.

There are pros and cons as always.. in this case it may not be exactly what he wanted but instead he gets a good mediacenter. I feel its more you forcing options here.. you want to offer only one solution while I added an extra option. Sorry if I wen't offtopic with emulation stuff.. would have stfu if I'd known it causes this much stir.

..and encouraging illegal activities that I think is not allowed on Amiga.org

Amiga emulation for PS3 was posted and accepted and discussed as newsitem awhile back, so apparently it ain't so much of a hot potato for Amiga.org moderators.

I own legal copies of Amiga roms .. it takes a much bigger company than Sony to stop me lying on the sofa drinking beer while watching good old Amigademos :)

Hacking PS3's is illigal and your telling a fellow forum user to do it

Would be nice to know which part of finnish law forbids me to modify hardware I purchased with my own money. Without knowing better I would even go as far as guessing the law precisely tells I can do what ever I want with my device.

I also have hacked tv playing videos and a hacked regionfree dvd-player so quess that makes me a triplepirate :(

@The_mud

That would be my fault, sorry. believe me it wasn't my intention, just wanted to help you with what experience I have had. I found it extremely boring to sit on PC running WinUAE but found a cosy way for me to run Amiga-software.
As Amiga isn't really up for office work anymore, I myself think it more of an retroentertainmentbox novadays.. and at least I want to have my entertainment in livingroom (or bedroom, if I get lucky ;-))

If someone creates a bootable ISO then fair enough, until then even I wouldn't bother with PS3.

Eer.. why to have bootable iso when you can have it all on PS3 harddrive always, doesn't make sense to me. I actually went a bit further, I have a usb-stick with a couple hardfiles if I want to play with AGA.. and a couple directories of ADF's and exes so I can run a demo or a game in a few seconds when I want.

USB stick because its easy to add/edit/remove files when necessary, plus I didn't find hardfile on harddrive much faster. I could do the same via FTP of course but USB-stick is just so simple and quick for this particular task.

If someone is going to suggest using a hacked ps3 then they should point out the downsides.

The only downside (if you can call it one as I don't) is that you are not able to connect to the internet.

If you think it's not illegal to hack a ps3 because geohot did not get arrested then go ask him to hack any sony product and see what he says .

Are you trying to twist this intentionally? Geohot's case is totally different compared to what we are having here. As a matter of fact there is almost nothing common between a regular user updating a firmware and the Geohot-lawcase.

For years now http://www.modpiiri.com has offered modchip-solutions and modded consoles on their website. You get guarantee for your purchase and they file their taxes (I hope). Wouldn't you think Microsoft or Sony would have done something about it years ago if it was that illegal?

By investigating a bit it seems internet actually works just fine on custom firmware, only PSN is not available. So downsides just went from one to zero.

Enough already with the PS3 rubbish tricky to hack emulator please!

Besides PS3 is just plain ugly, makes the A500 look good :roflmao:

I don't think its ugly, but its damn impractical. The one who decided the top should be in curved shape oughta be shot

My A500 with turbocard and a harddrive making it about three meters long looked pretty geeky.. far away from stylish too hehe

Brand new A600 looked kinda cool IMO, shame there wasn't much inside to justify the purchase, especially the harddrive-version cost an arm and a leg. A1200 in A600 at reasonable price.. that would have been a winner.

Superb TheMud. Agree 100%.
You will see I  and some stayed on topic for the thread.

Here, have a medal.

PS: Hello McFly !!! "No More Emulator for Me - Want an Amiga" then half the thread is on frikkin emulation.  Start a new thread if ya wanna talk about the PS3.

Half of the thread is about correcting wrong information by several people to several people. Don't stack all the shit on top of me.
Also I have no need to start a new thread about PS3, I'm happy running Amigasoftware by emulation, and TheMud will be happy running Amigasoftware by the real thing. No losers here, only winners. And hey, maybe some people even learned something about hacking.
