What's so bad about Intel 8086 in technical terms?

A core i7 is so far removed from an 8086 it isn't funny.

The original Core Duos were basically two Pentium 4s on a chip, the i series developed out of this but fixed many of the pentium core issues, but yeah, somewhere deep in the cores lie remnants of the old 8086...

Really at this point in time there is no competition on the desktop/laptop.  i5 and i7 far outclass anything offered by ARM, and there are no other practical competitors left.

I don't see an end to the divided market with ARM on the tablet and phone and intel on the desktop/laptop.

ARM is the sole survivor and they are concentrating on the tablet/phone half of the market.   PPC is for all intents and purposes dead after being abandoned by the game console makers.  Freescale isn't in the competition for speed at all.  

So now that processors have a frequency ceiling the businesses that stay with x86 will see their competitors run other stuff way faster due efficiencies ..

I haven't touched assembler since the old single core days, how do you program multicore chips?
