If only professional standing armies were used to defend, I'd agree with you.

But as whabang said, we have a conscription army( even if only around 1/4 gets drafted).
And whats more according to swedish law a a swedish military officer can´t command swedish soldiers outside sweden. The troops on international missions has special contracts to allow that.
So our military is a pure defense force. We are never going to invade anybody with because, our military doesn´t have to obey those orders.:-D
The finns have nothing to worry about from this side of their country anymore. :-)
Most other countries needs a law like this. Are you listening Fade???? :-)

Yes Sweden has done some strange things during war. Being a neutral country they kind of stayed out of WWII.

Not being officially involved, it seems Swedes volunteered to be in both the German and Finnish armies,

That is the freedom of the individual, there was a few nutcases that moved to Germany and joined SS. But the volunteer effort to help Finland was unofficially approved by the governement.
Anyway if YOU wanted to join the French Foreign Legion how could the american authorities stop you?

although officially they did manage to take quiet a few allied prisoners and hold them till the end of the war.

As you just said we were neutral, that meant that any foregin aircraft was forced down, and the crew taken as prisoners. The germans usually volunteered to be prisoners.
Better to be a prisoner in Sweden than a corpse in germany.

If I remember my history correctly, they were also a repository for a lot of stolen war booty

I have never heard of that, but as Whabang said, we got paid in with stolen goods. Anyway, that is what capitalism is all about isn´t it, money don´t smell and all that.

and was rife with spies and espionage.

Oh, there was this house in Malmö that was used to  monitor radiotraffic. The funny thing was that during the first part of the war the germans used it and during the second half it was the allies.

But the real point is that Sweden can´t invaded anyone!
That would require a rewrite of the law, and that would take at least 5 years(2 decisions in parliament with, an election  in between)
Do you really think it´s reasonable that one single person should have the power to involve your country in a war?
That there is a reason to go to war if nobody is trying to invade you?

None of this matters anyway. Sweden couldn't invade anyone with an army larger than Estonia... :-D

And in any case, Britain would help them (as they did in 1918) along with the Finns and the other Baltic States :-)

Devious imperialists...
Why can't people just leave us in peace? We have an empire to build, and we ain't got all day! :-x

:)

I found a small weakness in our plan to conquer the world.
How are we going to supply our army with key supplies like snus, hembränt, surströmming(is also an important weapon, a cheaper and environmental friendly alternative to mustardgas ),mammas köttbullar and Kalles Kaviar?;-)
