I think the think that the one best meets what you want is a Psion 5MX.
The PocketPCs doesn´t have that formfactor anymore except for the Jornada which is both expensive and outdated by now. Not to mention battery life.
There is some new PocketPcs with 640x480 screens some even has USB-host so you could hook-up an external keyboard.
A Bluetooth-keyboard is another option if you want a real keyboard for PocketPCs.

I don´t like the built in recognizers in WinCE, I replaced it with this http://www.phatware.com/calligrapher/index.html
it´s simliar but better.

Of course the Newton Messagepad 2000 has the best handwriting recognition. If you can find one secondhand go for it, it´s the best PDA ever. There is keyboards for them to but I never needed one.
Apple did it right the first time, bring back the Newton!

For those who made comments about handwriting recognition, I have owned a newton in the past and I think nothing right now beats Microsoft Transcriber (A free download) at pocketpc.com.

Then you probably had a Newton 100-130 or eMate, not a MP2000/2100 because I haven´t found anything that beats it.

Nor have I seen a comparable product to Microsoft Voice Command which lets you speak to your pocket pc.

Nah, Macintalk for Newton is way cooler. Instead of alarms it can read your meetings to you 8-)

the thing is WinCE is just that,  Windows but the NewtonOS was designed from the begining to be for a PDA. Newton is the PDA.

Oh, and Steve iJobs is evil :pissed:
