YellowDog 3 Linux out
« on: March 19, 2003, 10:50:21 PM »
Good news for AmigaOne owners: Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 is out. Apparently it's based on RedHat and sounds like it's got a lot of the RH8.1 stuff in it. Might be something to play with until OS4 arrives.

YDL 3.0 does not as of yet support the AmigaOne. A certain person from MAI is working on that, though. It's not like Terrasoft gives a damn

Looks like an opportunity to me :) Keep up the good work.

I've been using RH8 a bit, being a Linux-beginner, I'm quite happy with it, so it would be nice to have a familier environment (Linux-wise) when I get the AOne board- hopefully in the next 2/3 months- I'm still holding out for OS4.

I tried Linwows and it's wow !!!

I've heard mixed things about Linwows, but it's good that there are easier to use distros out there.

I've used RH6.2, 7.3 and 8, and all of those are quite straightforward. 6.2 still requires you to fiddle with disk parts, but that seems to almost gone in 7.3 and 8 is pretty much "insert disk 1, turn on power, choose your install, wait, insert disk 2, restart computer, login." Of course, you can do these things manually, but if you want easy, it's there.
